In this episode of Truth Africa Series (brought to you by Historical Africa), we will be reacting to foremost anti-corruption advocate and former Director of the Kenya Law School, Prof. PLO Lumumba expression on how Religion has been used to deceive Africans into poverty .

He stated that many African religious leaders have used religion as a tool to control and exploit the masses, which has led to widespread poverty and suffering on the continent. He argued that religion should not be used to justify oppression and inequality, but rather as a means of promoting peace, justice, and equality for all people.

One of the most glaring negative impacts of religion in Africa is the presence of religious conflicts. Differences in religious beliefs have,
at times, led to violence, discrimination, and even wars.

Religious extremism has also taken root in Africa. Some extremist groups, claiming religious justifications, have perpetrated acts of
terror, resulting in loss of life and widespread fear.

The introduction of foreign religions, has sometimes led to the suppression and decline of indigenous African beliefs. This has led to
the loss of cultural heritage and traditions, creating a sense of alienation among some communities.

In some cases, religious doctrines have been used to justify and perpetuate gender inequality. Women in certain religious
communities face discrimination in terms of access to education, employment opportunities, and decision-making power within their
families and societies.
